Garibaldi Provincial Park, Elfin Lakes

5,700 km

On last Monday my friend Annie and I drove up to Garibaldi Provincial Park near Squamish, BC for some camping and hiking.

We decided to backpack in the Diamond Head area of Garibaldi. We chose to make the camp at Elfin Lakes and make this our basepoint for the 3 days we were there. Elfin Lakes are two adjecent coin lakes that offer about 30 camping platforms with wonderful views of craggy peaks, lush forest, and overhanging glaciers.

Unfortunately it was a rainy 3 days but on tuesday the weather cleared enough to do a nice day hike up to the Gargoyles. The hike to the Gargoyles was a few hour climb along some picturesque streams, peaks shrouded in cloud, and under the stone shapes that are known as the Gargoyles. We spent about an hour and a half at the top taking pictures, eating and exploring all along the ridge.

The clouds cleared a bit and started to transform and move in some very neat ways between the mountain valleys. Sometimes they would move to expose only the summit of Diamond Head peak, or would gather only on one side of the mountain leaving on side clear and one side entirely shrouded.

Here is a group of photos from the trip.

Overall it was a wet, but stunning trip in one of the most beautiful and serene places I have ever been.
